39-метровая моторная яхта класса J-K7 производства Camper & Nicholson
Velsheda was the second UK J-class yacht designed by Charles Nicholson and built by Camper & Nicholson in 1933 in Gosport. Her owner, W.L. Stephenson had previously owned and campaigned White Heather II and ordered Velsheda with the introduction of the J-Class. Stephenson named his yacht after all three of his daughters, Velma, Sheila and Daphine, taking the first three letters of each name he came up with Velsheda.
Between the years of 1933 and 1936 she raced with some of best known yachts of her day, Shamrock V, Endeavour and Britannia, just to name a few. Under the skilful seamanship of Captain Mountifeild she won more than forty races in her second season.
In 1984 she was rescued from a Hamble River mud berth by Terry Brabant and after several years of restoration with faithful attention to detail, the classic yacht Velsheda could once again be seen in all her glory under her 7,500 square feet of sail racing in the Solent. After being modernised and restored by Dijkstra and Mumford, with carbon-fibre mast and refaired hull, Velsheda was re-launched in Southampton in 1997.
Since her re-launch, she has circumnavigated the globe and crossed the Atlantic many times. Regular regatta destinations include: Antigua Classics in April, Rolex Maxi Regatta in Sardinia in September and Voiles de St Tropez in October.
